I can’t really think of any reason why anybody would want a single currency. It isn’t particularly difficult to switch from one currency to the next when going between countries, and its not like most people do that that often.

Lower transaction costs for business. Increased cross border trade. Price transparency leading to increased competition and lower prices.

There are 12 countries in the eurozone and 10 more will be giving up their national currencies in the next few years. Bet they’re not doing that without good reason. Other regions are considering a single currency based on the EU model. A SGC is the logical, eventual final outcome.
